Which devices and browsers does PixVenu work on?

PixVenu is fully web-based — every iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux device with a modern browser is supported. No app to install.

PixVenu runs in the browser — there's nothing to install on any device. Hosts and guests both use the same web app on whatever device they have. The list below covers what's officially supported, where the experience differs by platform, and the edge cases worth being aware of.

Mobile (iOS + Android). PixVenu is designed mobile-first; the guest upload flow is the most polished on phones. Specifically:

  • iOS Safari 14+ — full support. Camera-capture button uses iOS's native camera UI directly. HEIC photos upload at full resolution.
  • iOS in-app browsers (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) — known-flaky for uploads. PixVenu detects these and shows a "Copy link, paste into Safari" banner at the top of the gallery. See opening-in-a-real-browser.
  • Android Chrome / Firefox / Samsung Internet — full support. Camera-capture uses Android's native camera picker.
  • Older Android browsers (pre-Chrome 90 / pre-Samsung Internet 13) — basic upload works; some animations + transitions degrade gracefully.

Desktop (macOS + Windows + Linux). Every major modern browser works:

  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, Brave, Arc — all recent versions supported.
  • Internet Explorer — not supported. The codebase uses modern ES + CSS features IE doesn't implement; we don't ship polyfills targeting it.

Desktop is the right path for hosts running the dashboard, downloading the bulk ZIP archive, printing QR signage, or uploading large batches of professional photos. The same gallery URL works on both mobile and desktop — same uploads land in the same gallery regardless of which device sent them.

The camera-capture button is mobile-only. PixVenu's upload screen has a "Take a photo" button that opens the device camera directly. On mobile, this uses <input capture="environment"> to open the rear-facing camera. On desktop, the attribute is silently ignored — the button still works, it just opens a normal file picker. (Most desktop users wouldn't want to take a webcam selfie of an event anyway, so the behavior is sensible.)

Hosts running the dashboard from mobile. The host dashboard (/home/galleries, gallery detail, settings) works on mobile but is denser than the guest viewer. Bulk operations (selecting + moving photos, batch caption editing, ZIP export) are smoother on a desktop with the keyboard shortcuts and a real cursor. For one-off triage during the event — approving a flagged photo, replying to a guestbook entry — mobile is fine.

What we deliberately don't support.

  • Native iOS or Android apps, by design. PixVenu being app-free is the core promise to guests — no install, no account, just a tap on the QR. Building native apps would require sign-up flows + app-store reviews + push-notification handling that all push us away from that promise.
  • Print-only browsers / kiosks — the gallery requires JavaScript. A kiosk locked to a static-content browser can't render the upload flow. (The slideshow projector mode at /g/<slug>/slideshow is a separate chrome-less surface that DOES work well on a kiosk; it just doesn't accept uploads.)

If you have a specific device or browser combination not covered above, get in touch and we can verify whether it'll work for your event before you commit.
